How does CBT work?CBT has a structure, requires goals and a treatment plan. It will help you to observe and change your negative thoughts. It will help you to focus on the “here and now”. It is solution focused. It is collaborative. It uses techniques, strategies and exercises. It helps you become "your own therapist". Find out more about CBT on my Treatments page.

How does EMDR work?EMDR helps with processing memories of traumatic events in your life. Works on images or body sensations that you might feel “stuck” with. Helps to create new associations in your brain so your memories become less vivid and less intense. Uses eye movements (bilateral stimulation) to create new neural connections. It works really well with other problems e.g. anxiety, depression etc.

Is it confidential?Everything that we talk about is confidential and stays between the client and the therapist, unless someone’s life or health is in danger or you disclose criminal activity. I have a duty of care and if anyone is at risk, I will have to pass this on to your GP, social services, the police etc. This is to make sure you are safe and people around you are safe.
-
How long and how frequent are the sessions? Each session usually lasts 55 - 60 minutes. For trauma treatment 90 minutes sessions are sometimes recommended. The sessions happen every week or every other week, usually at the same time. I mainly offer short-term treatments but sometimes longer term work might be required.
